Every release of Spaci

A running history of what we have shipped. New features, refinements and fixes, newest first.

  1. v2.3.1 October 1, 2026 Latest Latest

Projects group their worktrees and packages into one row, and Spaci now finds local AI models and old developer tools.

One row per project with its worktrees, plus local AI models and old developer tools

    Spaci 2.3.1

One row per project, worktrees included

AI coding tools and git worktrees leave many copies of the same repository behind. Spaci now groups every package and every linked worktree under its repository, so a project with 40 worktrees is one row, not hundreds. Each worktree shows its branch, whether it has changes, whether it is merged or pushed, when it was last active, its size, and which tool likely created it.

Worktrees that are merged or pushed, have no changes and are not locked can be removed, one at a time or together, after a confirm that lists each one. Spaci uses git worktree remove without force, keeps the branch, and records how to bring each one back. A worktree with edits, hidden edits, commits found nowhere else, local data such as .env files, or recent activity is shown with the reason and never offered.

    Local AI models

Ollama, LM Studio, Hugging Face and other local AI tools are listed with each model's real size on disk and whether it is loaded right now. A model is deleted on its own, through the tool's own command where it has one, never while it is loaded, and comes back with the command Spaci shows.

    Developer tools

Unused simulator runtimes, Android system images and emulators, old Node, Python and Rust versions, old IDE caches, superseded editor extensions and browser test downloads are listed in System Cleaner. Versions your projects pin, your defaults and anything running are protected.

    New
    • Projects group every package and git worktree under their repository, with each worktree branch, changes, merge state, size and likely creator.
    • Remove merged or pushed worktrees with no changes, after a confirm; the branch is kept and History shows how to bring each back.
    • Local AI models from Ollama, LM Studio, Hugging Face and more, with real sizes and a loaded badge, deleted one at a time.
    • Developer tools: unused simulator runtimes, Android images and emulators, old toolchain versions, IDE caches and superseded extensions.
    Improved
    • Project counts and sizes no longer double count worktrees and packages.
    • Toolchain versions your projects pin, your defaults and running ones are protected.
  2. v2.3.0 October 1, 2026 Latest

Clean all developer files in one go, optional auto-clean with a 24 hour undo, and a Storage screen that explains your whole disk.

One confirm to clear every developer build folder and cache, and a Storage screen that accounts for your whole disk

    Spaci 2.3

Clean all developer files in one go

Build output and package caches rebuild on the next install or build, so Spaci now groups them. Clean all developer files on the Dashboard and in Projects removes every one Spaci has verified with git, such as node_modules, .next, dist, target and the npm, pnpm, cargo and gradle caches, after a single confirm that lists what goes and how each comes back.

Everything else is grouped by risk:

    • Safe: cleaned together with one confirm.
    • Review: app and browser caches, Docker images and the Maven repository, each confirmed by category. Folders Spaci cannot verify, such as a project's virtual environment, are shown but never cleaned.
    • Permanent: the Trash, archives, logs, AI tool history and Docker volumes, never in bulk, each confirmed on its own.

    Auto-clean, if you want it

Off unless you turn it on in Settings. It only touches safe build output of projects you have not changed for 30 days and package caches over 1 GB, only on power and while you are away, never while the tool that owns them is running, and never in cloud-synced folders or on other disks. The first run is a preview you approve in History. Everything it moves stays in a holding folder for 24 hours, with Undo in History, before it is removed for good.

    Storage explains your whole disk

The Storage screen now accounts for the space macOS, Windows and Linux use themselves: system volumes, swap, snapshots, simulator runtimes, Homebrew, package manager caches, virtual disks and more. Each item says whether it is safe, needs a review, is permanent, or is managed by your system, in which case Spaci shows the system's own cleanup command. What Spaci is not allowed to read is named, with a shortcut to grant access.

    Also new

    • What's new and notices: this screen, and a bell for news about Spaci. Switch news off in Settings.
    • Logos for AI tools, Docker, browsers, languages and frameworks across the app.
    • Docker volumes grouped by project, each removable on its own after a confirm, and a Restart button when Docker stops responding.
    • Faster and smoother: scans run in the background without freezing the window.
    • Keyboard and screen reader support, stronger contrast, and reduced motion when your system asks for it.
    New
    • Clean all developer files: every verified build folder and package cache in one go, after one confirm that lists what goes and how it comes back.
    • Risk tiers everywhere: Safe, Review and Permanent, each with the right kind of confirm.
    • Optional auto-clean for stale projects and large package caches, with a preview to approve first and Undo in History for 24 hours.
    • Storage accounts for system space on macOS, Windows and Linux, with the system cleanup command for items your system manages.
    • What's new and in-app notices, with a Settings switch.
    • Docker volumes grouped by project with per-volume removal, and Restart Docker when it stops responding.
    • Logos for AI tools, Docker, browsers, languages and frameworks.
    Improved
    • Scans run in a background process, so the window never freezes.
    • Keyboard and screen reader support, stronger contrast and reduced motion.
    • Reclaimable figures count only what a clean would actually remove.
    • Linux: a tray menu, and the window closes the app when there is no tray.
    • Crashes at startup are logged, with the log reachable from Settings.
  3. v2.2.1 September 30, 2026 Latest

A safety and honesty update: nothing irreversible is deleted without asking, large files go to the Trash, and History records exactly what happened.

    New
    • Linux: a .deb package for Ubuntu and Debian. It installs Spaci in your app menu with its icon and works on Ubuntu 24.04 out of the box.
    Improved
    • History now records every item: what was removed, what failed, what was skipped and why, how much space each freed, and how to get it back.
    • Restore hints match your project. A cleaned node_modules folder tells you to run pnpm, yarn, bun or npm, based on the lockfile the project actually uses.
    • When "Confirm before cleaning" is on (the default), every clean asks first and shows the number of items and their size.
    • Error messages are in plain English, with steps to fix permission problems such as granting Full Disk Access.
    Fixed
    • Emptying the Trash was preselected and labelled reversible. It is no longer preselected, it always asks first, and it is marked permanent. Xcode Archives are marked permanent too.
    • Large files are now moved to the Trash instead of being deleted permanently, so you can put them back.
    • Files moved to the Trash are no longer counted as space freed, since the space only comes back when the Trash is emptied.
    • History had a Restore button that did nothing. It has been removed, and the app no longer claims it can restore cleaned items.
    • History counted items that failed or were skipped as cleaned. Counts now reflect what was actually removed, and a clean interrupted by a crash is recorded as interrupted.
    • The tray showed a "Guard on" status, and the Tools screens showed sample figures as if they were real. Previews are now labelled as previews.
    • The "Desktop notifications" setting is now respected.
    • Tightened what the app window is allowed to ask the background process to open, read or scan. The large-file scan now looks only in your home folder and in folders you choose.
    • Linux: on Ubuntu 24.04 Spaci showed a generic icon and did not open. The AppImage now has its icon and starts on systems that block the Chromium sandbox for AppImages, and the new .deb keeps the sandbox on. AppImages still need libfuse2 (sudo apt install libfuse2t64); the .deb does not.
  4. v2.2.0 September 30, 2026 Latest

Spaci now finds the space AI coding tools and developer caches take up, explains what macOS calls System Data, and never deletes a folder it cannot prove is build output.

    New
    • AI tools: session history, logs and caches from Claude Code, Codex, opencode, Cursor, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, Grok, Zed, GitHub Copilot and Continue. Settings, credentials and memory are never touched. History is opt-in, and a tool's data is left alone while that tool is running.
    • What macOS calls System Data: the Storage screen breaks that figure down into what it really is on your Mac, including the Docker disk image, AI tools, developer caches, swap and snapshots.
    • Caches Spaci used to miss: NuGet on macOS and Linux, Gradle wrapper downloads, the Dart analysis server, the whole Go module cache, Hugging Face models (opt-in), and the command-line cache folder (opt-in, with model stores always kept).
    • Docker: Spaci now tells apart Docker not installed, stopped, open with its engine not responding, and running, and it shows the disk image's real size instead of the much larger number Finder reports.
    • An optional anonymous daily usage count: a random install ID, the app version and your operating system. Never file names, paths or sizes. Switch it off in Settings.
    Improved
    • Every clean is checked again in Spaci's background process before anything is deleted, so safety no longer depends on which screen you cleaned from.
    • A project folder is offered as build output only when git says it is ignored. Scans are cached, so each folder is checked again at the moment you clean it.
    • Cleaning a broad cache folder never reaches into a cache that is listed separately, so the size shown is the space you get back.
    • Linux: caches follow XDG_CACHE_HOME. Windows: temporary files are no longer counted twice.
    Fixed
    • Spaci 2.1 could delete a folder named build, dist, out or vendor that held source files, including files never committed to git. This is the most important fix in this release.
    • Read-only folders such as Go's module cache now clean completely instead of stopping partway.
    • Symbolic links are removed as links and never followed out of the folder being cleaned.
    • A clean that was partly refused or partly failed now says so, instead of reporting success.
    • Freed space no longer counts hard-linked files, which free nothing when one link is removed.
    • Docker cleanup refuses to run against a remote Docker host.
  5. v2.1.0 August 17, 2026 Latest

Spaci now sees Docker, and scans your projects about ten times faster.

    New
    • Docker: Spaci measures the images, containers, volumes and build cache the engine is holding, which a normal disk scan cannot see because it all lives inside one VM disk.
    • Projects that use Docker are marked in the list, and their project page shows the compose services and the engine storage that actually belongs to them.
    • Reclaim Docker build cache and unused images from the System screen or straight from Recommendations. Volumes are never touched: they hold your databases and uploads.
    Improved
    • Project scans are around ten times faster: a home folder that took two and a half minutes now takes about twelve seconds.
    • Artifacts are measured the same way as system caches, so the space Spaci promises is the space cleaning actually frees.
    • .NET projects now offer the whole obj folder instead of hundreds of fragments buried inside it.
    Fixed
    • Sizes no longer count a hardlinked file once per link, which could overstate a single node_modules folder by more than 2 GB.
    • The artifact scan no longer walks into .git, which was most of the time spent on long-lived repositories.
  6. v2.0.1 June 24, 2026 Latest

Signed and notarized macOS builds, so automatic updates now work end to end.

    Improved
    • macOS builds are now code-signed and notarized by Apple, so Spaci opens cleanly without Gatekeeper warnings.
    • In-app updates now install on macOS: when a new version is downloaded, Restart to update applies it and relaunches into the new version.
    Fixed
    • Restart to update no longer silently fails on macOS.
  7. v2.0.0 June 24, 2026 Latest

A complete redesign: a calmer, faster Spaci with a unified scanning experience and a richer storage breakdown.

    New
    • A redesigned interface across every screen, matched to the new Spaci motion brand.
    • Storage drill-down: open any category to see its biggest folders and files, and reveal them in Finder.
    • A guided 3-step onboarding that starts indexing your Mac in the background while you set up.
    • Cross-platform browser cache cleaning across Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, Arc and more.
    • A consistent live scanning card, with the animated logo, running counts and progress, on every screen.
    Improved
    • Cache-first screens: your last results show instantly, then refresh quietly in the background.
    • A new file-based icon system with crisp brand and category icons everywhere.
    • Storage classification is more accurate and now splits out App Data, Browsers, Xcode and Developer.
    • Cleaning shows an instant loader, a celebratory summary and a toast confirmation.
    • Settings gains an About section with version, license and links, plus a font selector.
    Fixed
    • System Cleaner no longer gets stuck on the measuring screen.
    • Filtering projects while a scan is running is smooth and no longer flickers.
    • Browser cache icons, including Safari, now render correctly.
    • App Data is now sized accurately instead of being wildly over-counted.
    • Selecting items and navigating no longer replays the entrance animations.
  8. v1.2.0 June 20, 2026 Latest

Disk breakdown, background scans and a calmer cleanup flow.

    New
    • Disk breakdown donut that classifies storage into coding, documents, media and system.
    • Background scans with a slim progress bar instead of a blocking modal.
    • Per-app cache detail screens so you can clear caches one app at a time.
    • History page with reversible and permanent actions clearly separated.
    Improved
    • Project rows now show the real favicon or app icon as a badge.
    • Smoother, flicker-free search while filtering projects.
    • Cleanup updates the project immediately so the app always feels current.
    Fixed
    • Scans of different types no longer block each other.
    • Dock icon now matches the rest of the brand at every size.
  9. v1.1.0 May 12, 2026 Feature

Project previews, smart recommendations and a quieter UI.

    New
    • Project previews with detected language and git status.
    • Recommendations that suggest what to clean and how much you would save.
    • Large file scanner scoped per project.
    Improved
    • Monochrome iconography across the whole app for a calmer look.
    • Onboarding rewritten to get you to a first scan faster.
    Fixed
    • Long project names now truncate cleanly.
    • Cache sizes were occasionally double counted.
  10. v1.0.0 April 1, 2026 First release

The first public Spaci. One-click cleanup for developer clutter.

    New
    • One-click cleanup for node_modules, build output and dependency caches.
    • Smart detection of project types across your machine.
    • Safe-by-design cleaning with a preview before anything is removed.
